About the index
The IPOX® SPAC Index (SPAC) follows the aftermarket performance of eligible U.S.-listed special purpose acquisition companies and selected companies formed through SPAC business combinations. It applies the IPOX® framework to this segment of the public equity market.
Understanding the SPAC lifecycle
A SPAC raises capital through an IPO to acquire or merge with an operating business. Before a transaction, investors hold an interest in the listed acquisition vehicle. Following a completed combination, the resulting company trades as an operating business, subject to the relevant security and index eligibility rules.
The lifecycle connects capital raising, transaction announcements, shareholder decisions and business combinations. These events can change both the nature of a security and its place within the eligible universe.
Selection and portfolio maintenance
The index uses market capitalization weighting, subject to its selection and exposure provisions. The portfolio is rebalanced quarterly, with corporate events addressed through the applicable index rules.
Its composition therefore evolves with eligible SPAC listings and transaction activity, including the treatment of qualifying completed combinations.
