Reuters: IPOX® VP Kat Liu Comments on Reformation’s $1 Billion IPO Target

Reuters reports that Permira-backed womenswear retailer Reformation is seeking a valuation of up to $1 billion in its U.S. IPO. The company and certain shareholders aim to raise as much as $239.1 million by offering 14.1 million shares at $15 to $17 each. Reformation plans to list on the NYSE under the ticker “REF.”

The offering represents a notable test of investor demand for consumer and fashion companies after recent U.S. IPO activity was concentrated in areas such as AI infrastructure and defense. IPOX® Vice President Kat Liu told Reuters that investors are not necessarily avoiding consumer companies, but relatively few retail brands possess the recognition and differentiation needed to generate strong public-market interest.

Liu also discussed the challenges associated with Reformation’s sustainability positioning and direct-to-consumer model. While direct sales can provide greater control over pricing, merchandising, customer relationships and inventory, Liu cautioned that the model is widely used across the modern apparel industry and is not necessarily a differentiator on its own.

“Consumers consistently say sustainability is important, but purchasing decisions are still heavily influenced by price, fashion trends and convenience,” Liu said.

“But I would not view DTC alone as a competitive advantage because many modern apparel brands have adopted similar strategies.”
